Ron Gill: The Songs of Billy Strayhorn is a culmination of Gill's twenty-year search for Strayhorn songs. Gill, a jazz vocalist and host of WGBH/89.7 fm's Jazz Gallery, produced the CD in conjunction with WGBH Radio. The CD features liner notes by David Hajdu, author of Lush Life: A Biography of Billy Strayhorn.

Strayhorn, best known for his collaboration with Duke Ellington, was classically trained and his love of theater and cabaret fueled his devotion to writing songs. Gill's search for Strayhorn's songs began in 1977, following his performance of "Day Dream" for a concert coordinated by Ran Blake for New England
Conservatory. Gill was taken by the song and the response it elicited from the audience. He began researching Strayhorn songs and twenty years later performed only Strayhorn songs in a sold-out concert March 19, 1997 at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA, with special guest Hajdu and members of the Strayhorn family.

Gill has been part of the Boston jazz scene for more than thirty years, performing in concerts and on radio, television and variety shows. Associated with The Manny Williams Trio, Gill sings jazz standards and show tunes, highlighting an impressive knowledge of the American songbook. In the mid-70's, Gill toured New England with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, directed by Mercer Ellington. Gill joined 'GBH Radio as a host of Jazz Gallery in 1989.

Tracks include: "Grievin'," "Multicolored Blue," "Something To Live For," "Day Dream," "Star Crossed Lovers," "Pretty Girl," "You're The One," "Maybe," "Lush Life," "Lotus Blossom," "Satin Doll," "Intimacy of the Blues," "The Last Light of Evening," "My Little Brown Book," and "I'm Checkin' Out, GoodBye."
